On July 31, 1982, Grace of God Lutheran Church raised the lighted cross. The cross has become a recognized landmark in Dix Hills, Long Island, New York. Millions of commuters drive by with views of the cross day and night on the Long Island Expressway.
The cross is constructed of cedar light polls, stands 24 feet hight and weights 800 pounds. The cross was listed in Riply's Believe It or Not as the largest cross made of utilility light poles.
